About the Program
The Migrant Health Evaluation Program (MHEP) is a service offered by the Ministry of Health, Turks and Caicos Islands. The program is primarily used to vet migrants seeking to immigrate to Turks and Caicos Island to live or work. This includes visa/work permit applicants to study, gain employment, or gain permanent residency.
Through MHEP, applicants must undergo a medical examination by a Licensed Physician/ Examining Physician (EP) to determine whether he or she is admissible for the stated purpose of entry. The purpose of the medical examination is to identify:
- Communicable diseases of public health significance
- Non-communicable diseases
- Vaccination status of immigrants
- Physical or mental disorders that may pose a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the individual or others,
- The condition of being a drug abuser or addict; and
- Any major medical illness that will affect productivity in the work environment or major financial liability for healthcare treatment.
Here is how to apply
- Call FamilyCare Medical Services or email enquires@familycaretci.com to book your appointment.
- You will have to complete a full examination by a medical physician in accordance with the requirements set out by MHEP. Before coming to your appointment, please ensure you have ALL of the following documents:
- Valid vaccination card, should include: 2 doses MMR, 3 doses of DPT (2 for submission. The last dose can be taken 6 months after submission) and dose of Polio- OVP/IPV. Vaccinations are available at FamilyCare if they need to be completed.
- Valid passport, NOT a copy.
- Employers’ information, including Name, email address, and phone number
- Valid Telephone number
- Valid Email address
- Work permit card (if renewal).
- After the physical examination is completed, you will receive a referral from FamilyCare to complete your X-Ray at the Cheshire Medical Center or Private facility.
- After your initial examination, you have to return to the clinic within 48-72 hours to get your Mantoux result recorded.
- Once your X-Ray is completed, notify FamilyCare. Delaying this process will delay your application submission.
- Once your X-Ray is received by the FamilyCare team and all your test results are normal, your application will be submitted to the MHEP, and you will receive a confirmation email from FamilyCare.
- If there are complications with your tests, you will be contacted with further instructions. Once the necessary treatments are completed, and you are retested, your application can be submitted with the updated test results.
- You will then receive a confirmation of your submission by our team. Please allow a minimum of six weeks before we receive any feedback from the MHEP.
- Once your MHEP Certificate is completed, you will be contacted to collect it.

Q. How long does it that to get a Migrant Health Certificate?
A. The total time from application to submission can vary from 1-4 months or more. This is dependent on the required documents the applicants need to submit, if they are available prior to the evaluation appointment and the time taken by the Ministry of Health to process the certificate.

Q. Should I contact the Migrant Health team to get an update on my application?
A. The answer in short is No. All applications submitted to the MHEP go through an approved health provider, which in this case is FamilyCare.
Q. When should I expect my certificate after the necessary waiting period?
A. Once your certificate is ready, you will receive a call. You can collect a copy of your certificate from the clinic at a cost of $10, or it can be emailed to you directly at no extra cost.
Q. What is the cost of the process?
A. The total cost varies on age:
- 0-14 Year of Age- $200
- 15-40 Years of Age- $245
- Over 40 Years of Age- $280
(Does not include X-Ray, Mantoux Test, Vaccines, and any retesting)
Q. When should I begin this process?
A. Due to the high demand MHE Certificates, applicants are recommended to begin the process at least 6 months in advance of their document expiring or when they actually need the certificate for a new application.
